On the way to PlanetProof recognized by the Global Ecolabelling Network

Publication date: 29 October 2021

This week, the certificate of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN) was awarded to SMK for the quality label On the way to PlanetProof. With this, GEN recognizes the label as a reliable type 1 ecolabel. SMK, the administrator and developer of the label, can now work together with other ecolabels worldwide to make a greater impact on sustainability.

Evaluation for Full Membership

SMK was previously an Associate Member of GEN. For Full Membership, On the Way to PlanetProof must comply with the international ISO-14024 standard for ecolabels. This offers assurance to the market that these are reliable and ambitious labels. Unlike random “green” symbols or claims, GEN members offer credible labels that are based on independent testing against predetermined environmental criteria that rely on a life cycle approach. After an intensive evaluation process, SMK was admitted as a full member with On the way to PlanetProof.

Milieukeur and EU Ecolabel

With its membership, SMK is looking to collaborate with other ecolabels. There are many opportunities for exchanging knowledge and best practices within the GEN. Membership has also been granted to Milieukeur, the national ecolabel for non-food products and services. EU Ecolabel, of which SMK is the Competent Body, was previously admitted to Full Membership through the European Commission.

Global Ecolabelling Network

The Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN) is a non-profit association of leading ecolabelling organizations worldwide. GEN was founded in 1994 to help protect the environment by improving, promoting, and developing the ecolabelling of green products and sustainable services.
