Call for input revision On the way to PlanetProof Plant Products

The certification scheme On the way to PlanetProof for Plant Products is currently under revision. Through periodic revisions, the scheme’s requirements remain up to date. All stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the proposed modifications. Comments can be submitted until May 23, 2025.

The 2025 revision aims to adjust the requirements where necessary, ensuring alignment with the latest insights while maintaining the scheme’s ambition and feasibility. The draft version of the revised scheme is available in Dutch, English, and Spanish. All textual and substantive modifications are clearly marked.

Key modifications

Below is a summary of the most important changes across several key themes.

  • Crop protection
    Requirements to reduce environmental risks through the allocation of additional malus points for active substances identified as Candidates for Substitution and the introduction of a cultivation-free zone zone.
  • Biodiversity
    Measures to stimulate biodiversity through the implementation of a Biodiversity Action Plan and a habitat inventory for all certified businesses.
  • Water
    Requirements to improve surface water quality in greenhouse horticulture, including zero discharge, leak detection and prevention (for substrate cultivation), and reuse of drainage water (for soil-based cultivation).
  • Soil quality and fertilisation
    Introduction of a minimum number of bonus points to be achieved within the themes of Soil Quality and Fertilisation.

How to respond

All stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback on the proposed changes, either in writing or during a public hearing.

Written comments can be submitted via this form until May 23, 2025.

In addition, stakeholders can share input or ask questions during one of the public hearings:

  • English-spoken online hearing: Tuesday, May 13 (13:30–16:00 CEST, UTC+2)
  • Dutch-spoken hearing: Thursday, May 15 (13:00–16:00 CEST, UTC+2), at Expo Houten (Meidoornkade 24)

Registration for either hearing is possible via the registration form until Thursday, May 1.

Final scheme

All written and verbal feedback will be compiled into a consultation report, which will be published on the website. The Board of Experts will evaluate the submitted input and determine how it will be incorporated into the final version of the scheme. This will be published no later than November 1, 2025.
