About the quality label
The independent quality label On the way to PlanetProof proves that you are buying or selling a product that is produced more sustainably and is better for nature, climate and animals. Based on criteria, On the way to PlanetProof-farmers and growers contribute to cleaner air, fertile soil, water quality, and animal welfare. They pay attention to more nature on the farm, separating waste and recycling. As an entrepreneur with the On the way to PlanetProof certificate, you give suppliers and customers the certainty that your company is working on sustainability, which can provide various benefits.
The quality label is for arable crops, fruit and vegetables, floriculture, eggs, dairy, prepared and processed products, and trade & retail. View examples of products and services below.
Results
On the way to PlanetProof has been growing considerably since 2017. The label now has:
- More than 2.800 participating companies
- Spread internationally across Western and Southern Europe.
- Intensive collaborations with stakeholders such as governments, scientists, civil society, retail, industry associations, and manufacturers.
- Increasing awareness among consumers

Why the quality label?
What we are producing and consuming right now, has consequences for later. By setting strict requirements for various themes, certificate holders of On the way to PlanetProof contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Most countries worldwide have made agreements about making our way of life more sustainable in order to preserve our planet.
Moreover, certificate holders are working on the sustainability objectives as stated in the European Green Deal. It proposes that, per 2030, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% compared to 1990.

The fastest growing sustainability label in the Netherlands
We are well on our way. By now, the label is available for 6 sectors and is active both nationally and internationally. Whereas in 2017 some 300 farmers, horticulturalists and other businesses still had a certificate, by 2021 there will already be over 2.800 participating businesses.
On the way to PlanetProof is growing at a rapid pace. For example, 5.6% of poultry farmers in the Netherlands are certified. Furthermore, 58% of the table potatoes and 53% of the herbs and vegetables (open cultivation) in the Netherlands are certified with On the way to PlanetProof. For fruit, the figure is 38%.

Since 1992
The quality label On the way to PlanetProof was previously called Milieukeur and was founded by SMK in the early 1990s on the initiative of the Dutch government. In 2018, Milieukeur was given a new and international name for food products and floriculture: On the way to PlanetProof.
The quality label expanded to animal production and now includes 6 different sectors: plant products, floriculture, dairy, eggs, prepared and processed products, and trade & retail.
